The course commences with a brief introduction to the use and application of 3D software in the industrial design profession. The operation and navigation within the modular user interface of Alias AutoStudio is explained and practised (menus, icons, hotkeys, functions, etc.) before the concept of NURBS modelling with curves is introduced. Various types of curves and surfaces are practised, based on the remodelling of a simple product in 3D.
Issues like surface accuracy and model quality are addressed as well as modelling strategy (“where to start”). The basics of rendering will be learnt based on the finished model, including topics such as choice of resolution, scene setup, camera setup, lighting setup, colours, materials and the mapping of graphics and textures.
