Professor Anders Warell is Director of Research at the Division of Industrial Design, Lund University, Sweden. He studied engineering, product design and human factors at Linköping University and industrial design at the School of Design and Crafts at Gothenburg University, and received his PhD on Product Identity and Design Aesthetics from Chalmers University of Technology in 2002. He was part of developing the Sason School of Design Master programme in Automotive Industrial Design Engineering at Chalmers and was responsible for the course programme on advanced form design, visual product brand identity and project courses. While at Chalmers, he co-founded Nordcode, the Nordic Network for Research on Communicative Product Design, which has organized yearly research seminars at the Nordic design universities since 2003.

In 2005, he joined the School of Design at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand, where he was the Head of Subject and Director of Research in Industrial Design. At Massey, he was the co-founder of Affect – the Centre for Affective Design Research, a collaboration initiative which aimed at supporting research and knowledge transfer between academia and industry in the field of design and innovation.

In 2008, he joined the Division of Industrial Design at Lund University. He currently leads the research at the Division, supervises PhD and Master students, and teaches into the industrial design and other programmes. As a designer and researcher, he has collaborated with numerous international as well as small companies. Research interests include form giving processes, design methods and innovation processes, product brand identity, form aesthetics, design semantics, user centered design, user experiences, and strategic design.
